A note from Dana;
Many of my clients know the extent of which I go to in order to explain session goals and techniques I employ and to help them understand my observations. I am known to bring out anatomy books, charts and even a skeleton on occasion. I routinely provide current research papers on any given topic. Even though at times some issues may be controversial, I believe in providing the mind with an active process to stimulate thought and dialog. I also believe an educated patient has the best chances of success with prevention and recovery from injury or illness. Many people are coming to the realization their doctors do not have all the answers, that medications alone aren't the answer, that wellness is inclusive of multiple factors. It is within this theme that we present this newsletter. In the context of a dynamic newsletter we encourage your feedback and inquiries. You may contact us through our website with questions about the material we present or request for information you would like to see. This newsletter is by subscription (free of charge). As a current client you have been added to our mail list. You may opt out at anytime by contacting us. Your privacy is respected. We will never sell or share your information at anytime. So sit back and enjoy, read what you want and leave the rest. We hope what we provide is interesting and helpful. Yours in wellness, Dana
Massage Dollars; Helping with the current economic times. No doubt, many people are having difficulty adjusting to the sharp increases in the cost of living. Unfortunately one of the first areas that tend to be cut from the budget is out-of-pocket self-care such as massage therapy and fitness memberships at a time when these services are probably needed the most. This has been compounded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine to discontinue covering therapeutic massage for many of their policyholders affecting many people in our area.At the Tree of Life Center for Wellbeing we are dedicated to your wellbeing. Like many businesses we have to cope with increasing business taxes, utilities, heating cost, liability insurance etc. however our commitment to you does not change.One way we can help you afford our care is to offer you a discount on your next session for referring a friend. This is a win-win situation where your friend benefits by being introduced to quality care and we can pass the savings of advertising on to you. Your recommendation and referral is the highest form of complement and is greatly appreciated .
The Tree of Life Center for Wellbeing is a healthcare centered practice with a dedication to helping our clients / patients with natural healthcare through Therapeutic Massage, Functional / Corrective Fitness Training, and the mind-body connection to health thru EFT (emotional freedom techniques). A sliding scale fee may be offered for special circumstances. We don’t want you to postpone care if needed. Massage therapy is not a luxury item, it is good preventative care. from the Wachters' Weekly Special: 6/30/08 - 7/4/08 Swim Suit Fit
You hear it all the time - "metabolism", but what is it? It's the process of
converting food to energy (movement and heat). Metabolism happens in your
muscles and organs and the result of it is what we commonly refer to as "burning
calories". Metabolism is essentially the speed at which your body's motor is
running. The Positive Weight Loss Approach
There are success stories across the country today. On television and in newspapers, magazines and tabloids about people who have miraculously lost untold pounds and kept it off. In all instances they say their mental attitude as well as their outlook on life has totally changed. Diets and weight loss programs are more flexible now than they once were and there are many prepared foods already portioned out. They are made attractive and can be prepared in a matter of minutes. Low-fat and low-calorie foods are on shelves everywhere. You will probably need to learn new, wiser eating skills. You will want a weight loss regimen that gives you some control, rather than imposing one rigid system. Look for one that offers a variety of different eating plans, so you can choose the one that's best for you. Keep in mind, too, that your weight loss program will most likely include some physical exercises. Look at the exercising aspect of your program as fun and recreation and not as a form of grueling and sweaty work. The fact is that physical fitness is linked inseparable to all personal effectiveness in every field. Anyone willing to take the few simple steps that lie between them and fitness will shortly begin to feel better, and the improvement will reflect itself in every facet of their existence. Doctors now say that walking is one of the best exercises. It helps the total circulation of blood throughout the body, and thus has a direct effect on your overall feeling of health. There are things such as aerobics, jogging, swimming and many other exercises which will benefit a weight loss program. Discuss the options with your doctor and take his advice in planning your exercise and weight loss program. I would like to just add to this the important contribution. EFT (emotional freedom techniques) can play and could be the most important factor differentiating success and failure with dieting and lifestyle changes for health. First keep in mind we are whole beings. Our mind and body are working as one in the same. As an example, stress (or how we react to stress) plays a major role in our physical well being. What we perceive as something happening in the mind affects our heart, circulation, digestion, elimination, and on and on, often without our awareness. I use the analogy of the computer operating program Windows to describe how we can have multiple programs running in the background of our mind without even realizing it. These hidden programs (in the unconscious mind) play a major role in our wellbeing. Why do we crave junk food? Why do we resist exercise? How do we see ourselves? What have others said to us in the past or what experiences have we had that are effecting us today? EFT can and does take the power and charge out of these hidden programs, usually permanently. EFT can help bring to awareness these hidden and self-destructive behaviors and thought patterns then gently but effectively eliminate their hold on us. You may learn more about EFT by going to; www.center4wellbeing.com/EFT or by calling us. EFT / Emotional Freedom Techniques for Weight Loss Sylvia has extended the current EFT for Weight Loss group for several more weeks. The participants report very favorable results on many levels and wish to continue their journey using EFT for better control of their weight and health. Once a group has been meeting together the group becomes closed to new participants, however a new beginner group is in the works to begin soon. Also, Shapers in Damariscotta will be hosting Sylvia for a EFT Weight Loss Group there, possibly in the early fall. Teachers Health Conference at Sugarloaf a great success! Last Tuesday Sylvia conducted a group demonstration of EFT at the teachers health conference that was very well attended. This was followed in the afternoon with individual EFT sessions for those wishing to work privately with her. The response was terrific. It is always an immense pleasure to witness the reactions of those individuals experiencing the benefits of EFT and their surprise of the simplicity and effectiveness of the techniques. Sylvia also explained how she is working with children using EFT reducing anxiety, improving their grades, and helping with self image. Sylvia incorporates the use of Tappy Bear, the stuffed teddy bear with the tapping points, for some of her young clients. The children can tap (on the energy meridians similar to acupuncture) the points along with Tappy Bear to address their issues. Dana provided 15 minute seated chair massages during the afternoon and was completely booked all afternoon. The 4-day health conference provided teachers and schools assistants education and experience with alternative health modalities such as EFT, Massage, Yoga, Reflexology and much more.
